The Desert Wave

Unbuilt Design Award Submission

Inspired by sand forms in the desert, this scheme is a dramatic and lyrically curved building that moves in wave fashion vertically, horizontally and dimensionally. Its wave shape provides unique opportunities for changing views of the building from the building. The shape also fosters individual identities and entrances for the different program components. The resulting design is purposefully an "anti-tower" scheme that creates an iconic development that is instead lower in height, more human scaled and more visually interesting.

When engaged for this project we were given a program for six adjacent sites and uses, which could have resulted in a typical row of towers and a dis-jointed pedestrian experience. Our dramatically different solution was to instead build an integrated development where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
