The exposed structural elements of the new Northwest Community Wellness Center express a vigor and energy that is appropriate for a building designed to improve health and fitness. O'Donnell Wicklund Pigozzi and Peterson Architects, Inc. carefully planned the facility with open, inviting spaces that allow views across all major areas of the building. This openness helps to foster an environment of encouragement, challenge, enjoyment, and fulfillment to clients at all fitness levels. Most significantly, all major spaces-from the lobby with its central water feature to the track, pool, gymnasium, and weight lifting and exercise areas-enjoy an abundance of natural light. From the lobby, visitors can see the swimming pool, which in turn offers views of the gym. An upper level track surrounds basketball courts and exercise machines at the perimeter. At the upper level, a snack bar and health-related library overlook the pool and lobby. In giving the project an award, the jury praised its transparency and the successful way in which different areas are linked.
