Wisconsin Lake House

Bristol, Wisconsin / United States of America

An extensive renovation of a house that previously had no real connection with its site, this project attempted to capitalize on the inherent beauty of the lakefront site in Bristol, Wisconsin. The original house contained a series of small, suburban rooms that had no relationship to the outside. These rooms were replaced with a single great room, with a 1 1/2 story volume and a more steeply pitched roof to provide more architectural presence. A surgical opening was cut through the building, separating the house from the garage and breaking down the massing of the building. Finally, a swimming pool and pool house were added adjacent to the main house. Reclaimed Nicaraguan hardwood used on both interior and exterior surfaces unite the structures and add warmth to the material palette.
