Pool Barge

Chicago, Illinois / United States of America

The idea of Chicago pool barges came from discussions and a competition entry “Rethinking the Emerald Necklace”. The competition solutions premise was that the Chicago River could be “rebooted” and connected to the Emerald Necklace formed by our land based century old park system. Converting former barges into swimming pools that could be portable and located at different river locations each year have the potential to energize the river. This intervention connected to the “606” current river boat clubs, and new river projects like Lathrop Homes can quickly change the current “course of the river” for Chicago.
