House in Lakeview

Chicago, Illinois / United States of America

The remaining original components of this corner two-flat in Chicago consist of portions of the exterior walls and rooftops. The front of the house faces a busy street, and is the main entry. Upon entering, one is struck at once by its vitality and calmness. The verticality of the interior is expressed by a three story glass window, flanked by lazy rolling water, falling 30 feet from the top of the atrium to the lower level. Designed within axes celebrating space in horizontal and vertical manners, each detail and each client request is weaved as a symphony of experiences in three dimensional light, sound, color and texture. The details are testimony of precise design requirements executed in fine craftsmanship. The interior celebrates a flow of space with various escapes toward light. The double door French balconies open to the quiet murmur of water within the atrium. The lower level includes a bar, an exercise space, and a Jacuzzi. 'This house is an oasis from the stress of daily life.'
