Craftjack Offices

Evanston, Illinois / United States of America

For this tech startup, which focuses on home improvement contractor referrals and software, their work itself was translated into the design's theme.

The 'entry hall' is comprised of a series of portals that represent the phases of construction, starting with ‘design’ (portal wrapped with blueprint images), rough framing, lath, rough plaster and finally passing through a finished doorway.

Upon entering the main space, the bowstring truss arched ceiling forms an 'outdoor courtyard'.  Offices, a conference room and a call center form one side of the 'courtyard', with each space articulated as its own 'building'. The conference room is a ‘garage’, complete with an operable overhead coiling door, as legend holds that successful startups originate within garages. Sheathed in corrugated aluminum siding and capped with an iconic 1930’s motoring logo, the conference room has the flexibility to be opened up for large meetings or closed off for privacy.

Under an overhead 'sky' of undulating colored ceiling elements, the center of the space is for programming stations. Collaborative seating is available throughout, highlighted by a pair of Adirondack chair set under abstract 'trees'.  Each tree has a series of individually controlled WIFI enabled colored lights, able to be changed as desired.
