Chicago High-Rise Apartment

Chicago Illinois

Project Area: 1480 SF

This project is the complete remodeling of a single family condominium in a 1960s high-rise residential tower.

The owner wanted a design that accommodated the needs of a family of 4 while complementing their collection of modern American art. The design had to maintain the 2 bedroom 2 bath specification of the unit while creating an open environment, carefully balancing an experience of flowing space with the need for privacy and formality.

The design detailing establishes a consistent architectural theme throughout the apartment with a continuous reveal wall base, a dark floor of ashlar porcelain ceramic tile and carpet with minimal door detailing. Individual functional features are accented in glass, transparent finished wood, and paint, adding variety and richness, to the environment.

A small galley kitchen can be closed at each end with large sliding frosted glass doors, allowing for enclosure of the kitchen while maintaining natural light penetration. Extra deep counters and cabinets maximize storage in the small space.

Built-in master closets, foyer storage, study areas and master bedroom shelving create a personalized, efficient, functional and gracious environment.
