Sheehan Nagle Hartray Architects (SNHA) is an award-winning architectural practice formed of the merger of Nagle Hartray Architects and Sheehan Partners, ltd (SPARCH). This merger brought together the 50+ year legacy and diversity of project types of the Nagle Hartray office with the technical experience and performance-driven design approach that had made SPARCH a leader in the design of mission critical facilities.
With offices in Chicago and London, SNHA serves a diverse range of public, institutional, and corporate clients and an equally diverse range of project types including housing, early and higher education facilities, public libraries and other civic buildings, as well as mission critical facilities for global technology leaders.


Sheehan Nagle Hartray Architects (SNHA) is seeking to establish a new role with the firm dedicated to advancing sustainable, carbon-neutral, and healthy design solutions. We see these issues as being critical to ourselves, our clients, the building industry, and the world at large.
SNHA provides design services to cutting-edge technology companies with established sustainability programs and to civic and cultural institutions who are earlier in the process. The perfect candidate will need to understand our clients' facility needs and inspire them to set higher goals and provide plans to help achieve them.
Within SNHA the director must be ready to implement sustainable architectural solutions, identify new technical approaches on project-specific issues and challenge the office to reexamine established solutions. They should have a keen understanding of our different project types and assess how the office is performing in those areas and critiquing where we can improve. All work should be viewed with an understanding of the anticipated life of the project's materials, systems, and furnishings.


Ideal candidates are passionate about the full breadth of sustainability and committed to moving the industry forward in a fast-paced, precision-driven pace.
Responsibilities include: Becoming the recognized leader of SNHA Sustainability, by developing client relationships, publishing research, and presenting at industry conferences.
Communicating sustainable design practices among team members, sub-consultants, and clients.
Developing and implementing sustainability and green building curriculum for the firm.
Leading the conversation on building systems, pre-fabrication, material science and sourcing, and specifications.
Qualified candidates must have a graduate degree in Architecture, Materials Science, Environmental Design, Sustainable Design, or Construction Management preferred.
Ten plus years of work experience in Architecture/Academia/Construction.
A history of published articles or conference presentations.
Certifications that could include, LEED, BREEAM, WELL building standard, WELL AP, Fitwel, Just, Green Globes, EDAC (Evidence-based Design Accreditation), and participation in ASHARE.
Knowledge of established codes and best practices for building performance (US, California, and Europe preferred)
