The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is a public agency responsible for public way infrastructure, including planning, design, construction, maintenance, and management.


We are in search of a talented professional to join our collective as a Project Manager to serve as a municipal consultant for the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) Streetscape and Sustainable Design Program. This position is responsible for managing streetscape design projects from beginning to end. Primary project activities would include:

• Manage schedules and budgets for multiple projects;
• Oversee consultants in producing designs, presentations, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates;
• Review plans and oversee quality control process for streetscape design projects;
• Coordinate with consultants, elected officials, and City staff;
• Conduct or attend public meetings and presentations;
• Administer and observe streetscape construction projects, respond to contractor questions or RFIs, and review submittals for adherence to design intent; and,
• Prepare grant applications.

Schedule and Travel:
Typical work hours occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Some travel may be required within Chicago and the immediate vicinity. This position may require evening aor weekend time as necessary to accommodate scheduling demands for community meetings.


• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Engineering, Planning, Urban Design, or a related field;
• Five (5) or more years of experience;
• Landscape Architecture or Architecture professional license is encouraged;
• Competency with computers and relevant software, including Microsoft Office and Autodesk AutoCAD;
• Skills in Adobe Creative Suite, Bently Microstation, and ESRI ArcGIS preferred;
• Knowledge of specification writing is a plus;
• Experience with participation and facilitation of public forums;
• Engineering and plan review experience is encouraged;
• Strong writing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills ;
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities;
• Ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced studio environment;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and consultants; and,
• A commitment to design excellence and innovation.
