Civic Projects Architecture is a Chicago-based practice with a focus on high quality design, collaborative problem solving, construction management, social and environmental justice and long-term strategic thinking. We believe in the value of experimenting with multiple design solutions and our practice revolves around designing a wide range of building types including Educational Buildings, Not-For-Profit Institutions, Retail Spaces, Multi-Family and Single-FamilyResidential Rehabs and New Buildings, Mixed Use Buildings and Museum + Exhibition Spaces.

We are a small firm that believes the practice of architecture needs to evolve. Our approach is highly participatory. We expand the role of architecture to include community engagement, client development, and neighborhood revitalization on several scales. We work closely with both clients and stakeholders and engage in research to develop work that addresses our client’s particular needs and the site’s specific context.

Current projects include the museum design of the Obama Presidential Center with Ralph Appelbaum Associates and the design of Global Citizen Experience - Lab School’s new downtown location.

We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Project Architect with a keen sense of design to join our firm. You must be open-minded and passionate about architecture and design. Responsibilities include all phases of a project from concept design through to move-in. Projects range in scope and scale and include outreach, programming, code/zoning analysis and implementation, design research, construction document coordination, bidding, permitting, and construction administration.


At a minimum, the candidate shall have demonstrated experience as follows:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
A minimum of 6 years of experience
The desire to grow a firm
The maturity and seriousness to independently lead projects
Ability and desire to mentor and contribute to the growth of new team members
Experience managing teams
City of Chicago permitting and code experience.
Ability to put together a full set of drawings and specifications with minimum oversight
Knowledge of specifications and contract documentation
A high level of proficiency in AutoCad & REVIT
Strong design and technical skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and clients
