ABOUT THE JOB

We are hiring a Community Designer!
Design Trust Chicago is seeking a thoughtful and enthusiastic community designer committed to equitable design and supporting community aspirations and visions. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of architectural design or urban planning experience coupled with excellent public speaking, research and community engagement skills. Specific skills include:

⬝ Community engagement with diverse populations
⬝ Creation of inclusive planning exercises to gauge and understand community concerns and aspirations
⬝ Technical research and community data analysis
⬝ Technical and creative writing
⬝ Leading small and large public meetings
⬝ Develop concept-level plans, studies, and drawings in consultation with an interdisciplinary team - examples include
⬞ Existing site analysis zoning and massing diagrams
⬞ Conceptual renderings or photo collage of proposed design
⬞ Measured and dimensions drawings of proposed design
⬞ Summary presentations of research
⬝ Engage in project management, community outreach, fostering strong project relationships with stakeholders; and delivering/facilitating project presentations
⬝ Overseeing printing, production, and fabrication of deliverables
⬝ External presentations and public speaking
⬝ Track project hours and budget in coordination with Operations Manager and board
⬝ Document meetings minutes and milestones

REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICANTS

What you’ll need:
⬝ Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in architecture or urban design or landscape architecture a related field
⬝ Three to five years of experience in community design (architecture, landscape architecture or urban design).
⬝ Experience in presenting before community groups and civic entities
⬝ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
⬝ Proficient in MS Office, Google Docs, Adobe Creative Suites, especially InDesign, and ideally Illustrator and Photoshop
⬝ Proven knowledge and/or experience working with GIS and other data mapping and analytical tools
⬝ Proficiency in 2D and 3D modeling software such as Rhino, SketchUp, and AutoCAD or Revit
⬝ Proficiency with supporting or leading online community meetings via Zoom with plugins such as Mentimeter
⬝ Proficiency with online white board collaborative design platforms (i.e. Mural, Miro).
⬝ Experience and interest in web design, creating landing pages, registrations for events and more (i.e. Squarespace, Eventbrite)
⬝ Experience with email marketing and newsletter tools (i.e. Mailchimp, Squarespace)
⬝ Strong organizational skills to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects
⬝ Comfortable in coordinating input from various organizations for public/private collaboration, including multi-disciplinary project efforts working with allied professionals such as architects, civil engineers, and developers
⬝ Experience in developing and compiling/producing graphics supported reports
⬝ Strong team collaboration skills, and independent management and production capacity.
