AS+GG is seeking a Building Science Specialist to be based at our office in Chicago. This specialist position will be responsible for verifying design performance and undertaking performance related modeling and simulations, including building energy modeling, daylight simulation, LCA analysis, CFD and thermal studies. You will be expected to provide support to design teams in our city architecture, city planning and interior design studios during various design stages from concept through to construction documentation. You will work with our design technologies team to develop and constantly improve the analytical tools and workflows that we use to ensure a holistic and performative design process.

We are looking for someone with 3 - 5 years’ experience and a postgraduate degree in a relevant field. We are also willing to consider the right candidate who may have less experience. The key personality requirements are a passion for environmentally responsible design, an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and a scientific mind to challenge colleagues and convention. It goes without saying that a position such as this requires a talented individual to be able to pick up new software skills quickly.

Energy modeling and daylight simulation 
Lifecycle analysis (LCA)
Indoor and outdoor thermal comfort modeling 
Glazing and wall assembly performance analysis, including U-Values, thermal bridging, and assembly calculations
Develop, track and report on project-specific and/or office-wide sustainability and performance goals 
Test and develop analytical tools and workflows 
Evaluate strategies to achieve green building certification
Graphics and narratives to explain analyses
Provide interpretation, advice and recommendations based on analytical outputs
Analytical and graphic design support for competition entries and design reports
Documentation of design performance (for example, in support of green building assessment certification)
Education of colleagues in the use of analytical tools
Participation in design workshops, meetings with external consultants and client meetings
Present relevant work internally and externally 
Conduct sustainability workshops (internally)

Post-graduate degree in Building Science, engineering or a related field 
Ideally, 3-5 years of experience as a building science / building physics / architectural science specialist 
Demonstrable knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper (intermediate level) and Revit (Dynamo is a plus)
Knowledge of CFD and LCA tools
Basic knowledge of energy plus and design builder
Graphically compelling portfolio of completed work
Ability to write reports clearly and concisely
Ability to work and communicate in SI units
Ability to prioritize and concurrently work on multiple projects worldwide 
Ability to communicate well with project team members and other colleagues
Self-motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision 
Challenging mind and a passion for keeping up to date on global environmental issues as they relate to the built environment
Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe CC software
Willingness to attain green building credentials under multiple international assessment schemes
Willingness to participate in outside member organizations such as but not limited to USGBC, IBPSA, ASHRAE, or other relevant organizations
