How can improving access to forest preserve natural areas improve quality of life and play a role in unifying the South Side of Chicago? Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve sits adjacent to five communities on the southernmost edge of the city and next to the Little Calumet River. Complete with a boat launch, youth programming—and, in proximity to regional biking trails—the woods are rife with possibility. Yet the area remains secluded and underserved, risking isolation from the new civic and cultural developments soon coming to the South Side.

At the local level, AIA Chicago is committed to the individual safety and well-being of those working in or adjacent to the profession.

AIA Fellows are recognized with the AIA’s highest membership honor for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. The prestige of FAIA after your name is unparalleled and the judging is rigorous.
Founded by the AIA Chicago Small Practitioners Group and co-presented by the AIA Chicago Area Custom Residential Architects Network, the goal of this award program is to raise public awareness of the value that architects bring to small projects and to promote small practitioners as a resource for design excellence. All firms in the competition have 10 or fewer full-time or full-time-equivalent employees.

The Chicago Award in Architecture is a juried competition for student projects. Recognition is given, at the jury's discretion, for First, Second, and Third Place and for Honorable Mentions. The project awarded First Place is honored with the Benn-Johnck Award, in the amount of $500, Second Place is awarded $300, and Third Place is awarded $200. This year’s winning projects are:
AIA Chicago and the AIA Chicago Foundation are pleased to announce the 2017 winners of the Professional Excellence & Distinguished Service Awards.
To assist the Nominating Committee in preparing a slate of nominees with complimentary aptitudes for the Board of Directors and Foundation Board or identify potential candidates for participation in our Knowledge Communities and Board Committees, please submit a letter of interest to address any of the relevant points below. Please emphasize those areas in which you feel you have particular strengths or unique offerings. There is no expectation that everyone will have something to offer in each area. Feel free to describe any other characteristics not listed here that you feel might be of benefit to either of the boards noted above or Committee appointments.
In conjunction with the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, AIA Chicago presents a pop-up exhibition of Functional Objects by Architects (FOBA).
What is FOBA?
FOBA is a pop-up exhibition at the Chicago Design Museum's CHICAGO DESIGN MARKET. AIA Chicago has transformed one storefront on the third floor of the Block37 shopping center into a gallery inspired by the concept of open storage. The 27 individual objects on display were designed and submitted by AIA Chicago members ranging from Fellows to AIAS student members, showcasing a range of talents from furniture design to textiles and lifestyle accessories.
