As an AIA member, you automatically receive membership at the National, State and Local Chapter level, allowing you to gain from the most valuable professional resources available.

And as an AIA Chicago member, you are plugged in to the second largest AIA chapter in the nation, from the city that gave the world the skyscraper.



Individuals with an architectural license from a U.S. licensing authority are eligible for architect membership.




Associate membership is open to individuals who meet one of the following criteria: professional degree in architecture; currently work under the supervision of an architect; currently enrolled in the Architect Experience Program (AXP) and working toward licensure; or a faculty member in a university program in architecture.


ASSOCIATE: New Graduates


AIA National offers two membership paths for recent graduates from both NAAB-accredited and non-accredited university.


ASSOCIATE: International


Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-US licensing authority are eligible for International Associate membership.




AIA Chicago Affiliate Firm membership is open to non-architecture firms specializing in areas related to architecture or design. Up to three individuals per firm may join under a single Affiliate Firm membership.

Individual Professional Affiliates can work in architecture firms or related professions or industries in a capacity other than architect. Sales, marketing, engineering, interior design, finance, legal, etc., are all welcome to join. Professional Affiliates cannot be individuals licensed to practice architecture.




This membership is available for current students enrolled in architecture programs or programs for related professions from any US university.

Chicago Architect magazine will only be mailed to students with a US postal address.
