Presenting Matthew McGrane, 2018 Dubin Family Young Architect Award Recipient

AIA Chicago, 35 East Wacker Drive, Suite 250, Chicago

Matthew McGrane, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, NCARB, is an enthusiastic, multi-faceted Architect and Studio Director at Farr Associates in Chicago and recipient of the 2018 Dubin Family Young Architect Award, presented by the AIA Chicago Foundation. The award was established in 1983 to recognize excellence in ability and exceptional contributions by Chicago area architects between the ages of twenty-five and thirty-nine, or one who has been licensed less than 10 years

Matthew’s career thrives at the intersection of multiple modes of practice including user-centered design, research, and advocacy. In his current role, Matthew is pushing the boundaries of sustainable, equitable architectural practice on projects and initiatives aimed at preserving the environment and multiplying the impact of design for underserved populations. His presentation will describe his evolution from advocacy to implementation on projects and initiatives designed to more broadly engage the profession in the communities in which we live and work.

Matt will also discuss why Farr Associates decided to adopt the JUST standard for organizations, a voluntary disclosure tool developed by the International Living Future Institute, creator of the Living Building Challenge. JUST is not a certification program: it is a transparency platform for organizations to disclose their operations, including how they treat their employees and where they make financial and community investments. JUST is a nutrition label for socially just and equitable organizations, a label that can help organizations optimize policies that improve social equity and enhance employee engagement.

The presentation will start at 6:00 pm. Light refreshments provided.
