Join AIA Chicago, Forest Preserve District of Cook County, and Metropolitan Planning Council to learn more about how architects are working to build a more interconnected South Side. The Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve sits on the southeasternmost tip of the City of Chicago. Complete with a boat launch, youth programming—and, in proximity to regional biking trails—the woods are rife with possibility, yet the area remains secluded and underserved, risking isolation from the new civic and cultural developments soon coming to the South Side.
On Friday, May 11, a design charrette allows invested parties to crafted new visions for the Beaubien Woods area. Speculative proposals will be crafted by a collaborative group.
On Saturday, May 12, come to Carver Military Academy for an Open House. Led by AIA Chicago's Regional & Urban Design KC, the event brings together architects, planners, transit specialists, community members and more to increase access and engage with the Little Calumet River and enhance resident quality of life for those living nearby the Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve. Hear presentations, meet the design teams, and enjoy refreshments.
