Navi Mumbai, N/A / India
This project is for a learning and development center for Reliance Industries in Mumbai, India. The project includes meeting rooms, classrooms, office areas, exhibit areas, a cafeteria and a future 1000-seat auditorium. It is intended to provide a central orientation element for visitors and staff on their corporate campus.
The architecture of the project builds upon elements found in traditional Indian culture architecture such as courtyards, loggias, terraces. A central courtyard with an outdoor amphitheater provides a symbolic center for the corporate campus which will be further defined by the future auditorium. Light monitors introduce natural light into the meeting rooms and recall the rushandans found in Indian homes. The light monitors enclose long span steel trusses that facilitate large flexible spaces for meeting and exhibitions. Outdoor courtyards and terraces serve as exterior extensions of social spaces such as the cafeteria and introduce natural light.
The architectural expression of the project expresses the recti lineal characteristics of pillars and beams found in traditional Indian architecture. Brise-soleil and the design of mullion patterns provide protection from the sun and recall the geometric patterns also found in traditional Indian architecture.
