Rosecrance Ware Center | Outpatient Mental Health Center

Rockford, Illinois / United States of America

The Rosecrance Health Network Ware Center located in Rockford, Illinois was born from within the existing shell of a former grocery store to become a critical community center for an outpatient behavior and mental health treatment. As a beacon for behavior and mental health services, this building will house space for group therapy rooms, private consult rooms, art therapy, and interactive public spaces meant for clients to find support through the Rosecrance community. The design team developed a new modern façade with large areas of glazing to allow for optimal day lighting. This was matched with a paneled rain screen system and undulating canopy framing a welcoming entry element. Within the interior, the large scale of the existing structure allowed the team to maximize ceiling heights within the lobby space, corridor and staff workrooms to create a lofty feeling environment. Through space planning and furniture specifications, the team created a sustainable floor plan by emphasizing modularity and the ability for end-users to repurpose any space with ease and efficiency. The finishes and incorporation of the landscape within the building tie the contemporary design together with the feeling of comfort and healing brought on by elements found in nature.
