Northern Trust Corporate Lobby and Global Conference Center
Chicago, Illinois / United States of America
To propel Northern Trust’s brand into the future the firm created a sophisticated ‘front door’ off Monroe Avenue. A dramatic entry was created by moving the building’s existing side entrance one bay to the west. Guests now have direct access to the bank’s services and to the new multi-purpose global conference center.
The global conference center will host both client meetings and social events for some of the city’s notable charities and business organizations. Retractable walls enable operational flexibility.
The team’s design challenge was twofold; to merge the original turn of the century “Financial Architecture” with a mid-century building addition, and to produce a modern, branded, corporate headquarters lobby and conference center. A unifying circulation diagram, complementary materials and consistent lighting and detailing strategy brought all elements of the project into a single expression of the bank’s legacy and dynamic brand.
