Oak Brook, Illinois / United States of America
Hub Group’s new build-to-suit international headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois was undertaken to accommodate the company’s recent growth and allow for future expansion. The project scope included full architectural and interior design services, and addressed three main goals: transition from a traditional office layout to a more progressive and open workplace, create an environment that respected the company’s conservative legacy and rich history while reflecting its progressive and future-oriented culture, and attract and retain talent by offering an inspiring place to work that fosters community spirit.
The 130,000 SF, four-story, LEED Gold facility reinforces Hub Group’s business goals, culture, brand, and commitment to sustainability. Interior and exterior architecture and design decisions were made to serve Hub Group’s current and future employees, incorporating operational needs, integrating sustainability goals, and focusing on user comfort to create a unique, healthy, and collaborative work environment. The design team created a modern, streamlined, and transparent building, featuring a high-performance, floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall to increase natural light and thermal efficiency. Thoughtful details represent Hub Group’s brand identity: the use of glass embodies the core value of transparency, while the company’s iconic green shipping containers are repurposed as collaboration / refresh zones.
