Itasca, Illinois / United States of America
Henricksen outgrew its Itasca headquarters and wanted to consolidate its Naperville office into a new headquarters that clearly reflects their brand and dynamic culture. As a furniture dealership, the space functions as a working showroom and entertainment space for their vendors, manufacturers and clients.
Putting the latest workplace collaboration research into practice, all circulation paths were carved through the architecture and intentionally lead to a large informal ‘town square’ at the heart of the space which acts as a ‘collision zone’ that nurtures spontaneous collaboration between the newly combined offices, departments and visitors.
The Village of Itasca shared an interest in Henricksen staying in the municipality and offered incentives. The 30 year old building had been vacant for a long time and required substantial renovation. The building was gutted and outfitted with the latest in energy efficient systems including roofing, HVAC, lighting and plumbing. The space utilizes reclaimed lumber and is a loft ceiling design which eliminated the need for 20,000+ square feet of acoustical ceiling tiles. An additional dozen trees and 100+ grasses and perennials native to the area were planted to add to the greenspace and an outdoor patio seating area for employees.
