College of DuPage Naperville Regional Center

Naperville, Illinois / United States of America

The College of DuPage is a community college with far-reaching impact due to the school’s commitment to be a center for excellence in teaching, learning, and cultural experiences. Bailey Edward was hired to renovate the dated 1990 Naperville Center to extend the main campus image, providing a sense of belonging both within the university system and the building itself.

Bailey Edward performed work on classrooms, biology laboratories, computer laboratories, learning centers, tutoring facilities, administrative and faculty offices, student center (financial and counseling), and student lounge. To create an engaging learning environment, Bailey Edward transformed the layout of the first floor to increase natural daylighting and views for the public spaces and student service areas, while at the same time increasing visibility to the learning commons. Bailey Edward incorporated state of the art technology – computer integration, audio systems, projectors, screens, white boards, podiums with integrated controls – to facilitate teaching and allow for flexible learning environments. Bright pops of color draw the eye and stimulate creative thinking throughout.

Like the school’s mission to provide accessible, affordable and comprehensive education, the resulting design is open and welcoming, yet transformative, providing new technology, energy efficiency and visual interest.
