The parent company is a specialty grocery store dedicated to chef-driven cuisine. The 5,000 sf restaurant is a complete interior build-out of an existing space that is attached to a multi-story residential building in an upscale, urban neighborhood. The objective of the project was to create a fast-casual concept reflecting their product offerings of fresh, from-scratch ingredients and sustainable food sources. The challenge was posed to use as much of the existing space as possible to save on cost and embody a natural & raw feeling which reflected the menu.

The owner was open to the architect's use of reclaimed materials as well as a direction of sustainability to achieve this goal. The existing concrete slab was polished and a vaulted ceiling was uncovered during demolition in the dining room which was finished with reclaimed barn wood. Industrial light fixtures were wrapped with wire mesh to create oversized composition at the community tables to draw the eye into the space from the street as well as anchor the tables. The short project schedule of 20 weeks required constant communication with the contractor to achieve the desired results in time for the client's urban debut.
