Confidential North American Headquarters

Suburban Chicago, Illinois / United States of America

This corporate headquarters creates a 21st century campus environment that prioritizes the human experience, accommodates the program and emphasizes a sense of community. The building massing evolved to incorporate maximum use of the ground-level plane, both vertical and horizontal integration between building units, and strategic enhancements to site and structures to allow the architecture to achieve a more unified integration with the environment.

Five communities, representing each of the client's core values, create a flexible, interconnected campus. A series of five six-story structures was proposed with landscaped courtyards of varying themes between the buildings. The ground level of the campus is dedicated to shared amenities, meeting spaces and collaboration hubs for employees and visitors. The design features a main circulation connector that serves as a social connection from building to building.

The structure's narrow width and broad facades, as well as the openness of the buildings to the courtyards, maximize daylight. Skylights at the amenity commons and parking lobbies provide daylight into sub-grade level areas.
By developing a thoughtful structural grid, organizing smart circulation paths and creating a "chassis" based kit of parts, the design responds to current workplace concepts, while providing a flexible platform for future workplace trends.
