Cayan Tower
Dubai, N/A / United Arab Emirates
75 stories tall and containing approximately 110,000 sm of floor area, the Cayan Tower—with its striking helical shape, world class amenities, Dubai Marina and Arabian Gulf views—is the pure expression of the relationship between a building's form and the structural framework that supports it.
Each of the skyscraper's 75 floor plates are identical, however each is rotated 1.2 degrees clockwise relative to the story below it, resulting in a tower that twists a full 90 degrees over the course of its 304 meter vertical rise. The benefits of this unique form are manifest. Structurally, wind loads are reduced and mechanical loads are more evenly distributed when compared against a rectilinear building of the same height. Aesthetically, the twisting shape makes the building stand out from the architectural disharmony of the Dubai waterfront. It provides a greater number of units with desirable views of the Dubai Marina and Arabian Gulf while also preserving the views for residents living in neighboring buildings, ensuring that Cayan Tower enhances the spectacular waterfront site.
