Distinguished Building Award Submission

This project entailed the design of a 120,000 sf office building and a 60,000 sf amenity building containing employee dining, the main lobby and client meeting space on an existing corporate campus for a software manufacturer in Fargo, North Dakota. The setting is characterized by long views to the distant horizon and up to the sky. The buildings are kept low to reinforce this horizontality and provide views into the surrounding landscape.

The two buildings connect to the existing campus and define the third edge of an internal green space for the campus. Dark brick masses with long ribbon windows maximize views and provide a background for the central courtyard. An exterior space between the two new buildings is defined by weathering steel walls and shading elements and provides an external gathering area in connection with the lobby and the employee dining and meeting spaces.

Interiors reinforce the exterior, emphasizing this horizontality and the intimacy of the courtyard. Exterior materials are brought into the interior public spaces to reinforce the connection to the outdoors. In the amenity building, a second-floor circulation spine links to the existing buildings and provides breakout space for meeting areas.
