Trump International Hotel and Tower - Chicago
Distinguished Building Award Submission
The 92-story Trump International Hotel and Tower, North America's tallest residential building, combines 2.6 million square feet of luxury condominiums, hotel, retail space, parking, and a number of amenities including restaurants, banquet space, health club, lounges, and spa. Taking advantage of the Tower’s adjacency to the Tower to the Chicago River, designers lifted the building’s massing by 12 meters at ground level, opening up to an expansive promenade that steps down to meet the water. This gathering place includes retail space, pedestrian paths, and an extended Riverwalk park system. As a mixed-use building, Trump Tower includes a series of setbacks that clearly delineate the building’s functions while corresponding to the heights of neighboring buildings. Stacking these different programs on top of one another creates a building that is not only adaptable, but prominent on the city skyline. A palette of light silver stainless steel and clear anodized aluminum reflects and refracts sunlight. Designed to strengthen Chicago and its Riverfront, Trump Tower is thoughtfully and carefully integrated into the cityscape.
