LIncoln Park Residence Addition
Distinguished Building Award Submission
The objective in the design of this addition to a home in Lincoln Park was to create spaces that are simple and elegant; that intertwine the interior and the exterior; and that are sensitive to privacy and budget. The contemporary pavilion engages the existing home, creating space for the new garden. A red steel beam supports an office located above the multilevel family room. A glass tower creates a transition between new and old; it opens the kitchen to the garden and articulates vertical circulation. The renovated kitchen overlooks an informal living area and mudroom. An open stair rises to new office adjacent to the master suite. The interior and exterior of the addition are striking compositions of back and white accented by splashes of vermillion. Materials include marble, etched and colored glass and ebonized and bleached oak.
