Addison Trail High School Additions and Renovations
Distinguished Building Award Submission
The architect assisted District 88 in their $115.3 million “Building The Future” initiative which included an 86,000 sf addition and 200,000 sf renovation to Addison Trail High School (originally constructed in 1965).
The evolution of mechanical systems, lighting, and technology over the last three decades were non-existent in the school before this planning process had begun.
The project required careful planning during design and relentless attention to schedule when under construction as the school had no empty space to relocate students and could not be shut down during the school session.
The new school is 500,000 sf and can accommodate over 2,200 students. The project also includes:
• Three-story classroom addition with 21 new classrooms
• Athletic facility expansion and field house with basketball/volleyball courts and other track and field events
• New synthetic turf stadium and practice field
• Student commons addition, expanded cafeteria seating, and guidance and career center
• Demolition and reconstruction of 12 new science labs
• Rebuilt library/media center
• Two new forum rooms for multi-class teaching opportunities and community lectures
The renovation included nine collaborative zones that allow students to interact amongst their peers. The entire facility maintains a wireless technology environment.
