300 North LaSalle
Distinguished Building Award Submission
Located on the Chicago River, 300 North LaSalle complements Chicago’s inspiring skyscraper tradition. The 1.3 million gsf Class-A office tower comprises office, retail, restaurant and public spaces as well as below-grade parking. The project was designed to serve as the new world class home for the international law firm of Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
Reestablishing a pedestrian connection to the city, 300 North LaSalle’s riverfront public garden enhances the streetscape at the base of the LaSalle Street Bridge and cascades to the river with a fine dining restaurant, conference facilities, landscaped terraced seating and a waterfront café.
The tower’s placement at the northern limit of its site maximizes the southern exposure of the public garden while minimizing solar gain. Its design accommodates efficiency and flexibility in interior planning and floor-to-ceiling glass provides abundant natural light and views. The elegant lobby features a decorative screen of wood and ornamental stainless steel, set off by a floor of limestone.
Certified LEED CS-Gold and designated as Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR, the tower’s transparent façade of low-E glass and stainless steel fins creates a delicate silhouette. Culminating with a luminous crown, its modern profile recalls Chicago’s Miesian and art deco traditions.
