Michigan Avenue Residence

Interior Architecture Award Submission

A newlywed couple, both successful baby-boomers, purchased this condo on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile to begin their life together. They wanted a comfortable, sophisticated space that reflected their relaxed personalities.

Existing partitions were demolished and the space was reconfigured to open up the living room, dining room, and study, creating room for entertaining and providing more access to the stunning views of Lake Michigan.

A partial partition separates the living area from the study. It houses a custom bronze fireplace and millwork entertainment cabinet that displays artwork when closed, but slides open to reveal a hidden television.

A large, square kitchen with sliding pocket doors provides ample seating and workspace.

The two bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the unit, giving the owners and overnight guests additional privacy.

The result is understated elegance in an inviting and open environment where the couple can entertain friends, associates, or simply one another.
