Overview

A tight budget led the architects to specify only off-the-shelf materials for this relatively modest project. The architects turned the site of the client's former garage into an artist and gallery space. The jurors like the "consistent and very conscious" moves and thought the modest design and materials enhanced the project. Translucent lexan panels, metal and wood siding, and concrete floors frame this artist's space. Trusses, cable ties and louvers were left exposed. Leaving these fundamental elements exposed expands the space, brings in light, and reduces costs. The program included outdoor space to enclose pool equipment and provide outdoor storage shelves.
