Overview
If architecture is frozen music, this building hits a high note with its transparent and faceted glass façade, in stark contrast with its older neighbors on Chicago's landmarked South Michigan Avenue. The architects designed a 10-story, 145,000-square-foot mixed-use building and nestled it between classic early 20th century architecture. The program's design encompasses a museum, gift shop, library, theater, class rooms and event space. The mostly white, sparse interior has a sideways-Y-shaped stair in the open lobby area that hangs elegantly between the first and second floors. The same clarity prevails in upper-floor spaces, where angular glass curtains elegantly separate the elevator lobby and adjacent event space.
