Overview
Sited in the entrance atrium of the retail center at 900 N. Michigan Ave., the tight space for this café posed a challenge that the architects could either fight or embrace. The architects' design solution takes advantage of the small, underutilized space between and under two escalators, inserting an intimate seating space for shoppers and retail staff in need of a respite. The jurors praised the "really clever resolution."
