This renovation and addition to a Collegiate Gothic university library remains sensitive to the original building without creating a campus anachronism. Clear organization was required to integrate the original 1948 building, a 1968 addition that had provided space but confused the circulation, and new construction. An open atrium shows off the original south façade and brings natural light into the heart of the library. Reestablishment of the original north entrance and the addition of a south entrance flanked symmetrically by offices create a strong axis around which library stacks and study areas are organized.
