"High quality design achieved with very limited means," was the jury’s opinion of this project that gives new life to a building type that few would be willing to take on. Two Quonset huts and a small masonry structure were transformed into a transitional housing facility and offices for a non-profit provider of social services for AIDS patients. In addition to the design aspects, the energy efficiency of the project was praised. Windows received double glazing, with custom steel awnings above those that face south, and the curved shape of the Quonset huts allows for R32 insulation from the foundation to the ridgeline.
