Since 1955, AIA Chicago has given special recognition to buildings designed by Chicago architects through its Distinguished Building Awards program. The Distinguished Building Awards were initiated in 1955 by Chicago AIA President Alfred S. Alschuler, Jr., as part of a Civic Pride Luncheon. The luncheon, cosponsored by the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry, was launched to promote Chicago, architecture, and architects.
Today, Distinguished Building Awards are given for design and professional excellence. The Design Excellence Awards recognize the best contemporary architecture produced by Chicago-area firms, in Chicago and elsewhere, and the Professional Excellence Awards recognize individuals and firms who have made a significant contribution to the architectural community of Chicago. Winners are selected by a subjective jury of fellow architects. |
