The unusual challenge of this project was to design showrooms for three competing carpet companies within a single office space. The showrooms share an entrance corridor and a large reception area. Steel gates filled with woven strips of beech separate each showroom from the public zone, and curved walls extend into the hall to convey individual identities of the showrooms. The jury loved what they called the "orange brick road" that leads down the hallway to the showrooms. They also felt that the significance of the layout "goes beyond selling carpet to how offices work today." Jurors found the rich graphics and tactile qualities particularly appropriate for carpet showrooms.
