The interior design of four floors of a new ambulatory healthcare facility included architectural upgrades and imagery at a cost of only one-half of one percent of the total project budget. Graphic symbols inspired by nature, culture, religion, and heritage are repeated throughout the facility to create easily identifiable pathways and key service points for a patient population that speaks 27 different languages. A bright interior palette recalls the strong colors of the Swedish tradition. The jury felt that this was the best institutional project and cited its effective integration of graphics and signage.
