The move to a new corporate headquarters necessitated long-range planning for 900,000 square feet of space. The primary goal was to establish a work environment that promotes ongoing staff education and that is equitable and adaptable for future growth. An equitable layout was assured by establishing single work station standards for all staff and grouping private offices at the east and west ends of the building to open up dramatic views of Grant Park to as many employees as possible. The jury admired the design team's success in integrating furniture and file storage into an attractive, efficient layout. An additional project component is a below-grade training facility with a 300-seat auditorium.
