Located atop a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, this 8,500 square foot house has a loft-like open plan interior and glass walls that maximize views of the landscape. The steel structure is exposed and celebrated, with beams painted bright yellow and pierced with large holes to lighten them. The jury was impressed with how the architect took full advantage of the dramatic site, warmed up the high-tech structure with wood floors and ceilings, and met a tight schedule of six months from design to completion.
