A nontraditional office environment that stressed comfort and functionality was the solution to creating a unique workspace that would cultivate creativity, communication, and productivity for this space in Chicago's Merchandise Mart. To stress the company's new approach to the work process, The Environments Group created an open work environment that would engender interaction and teaming among Benevia's employees. A universal workplace size and shared teaming areas were developed for all employees (including executives) to address anticipate growth, changing work patterns, and technology demands. The design eliminates a finished ceiling and carpeting, where appropriate, and incorporates reconditioned furniture with some pieces from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. According to the jury, this project is "successful as a large office that you don't get lost in" and has a plan that responds to how people work today. |
