A century-old house by Pond & Pond was gutted, reconfigured within the U.S. Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitaion, and boldly enlarged. The steel-and-glass addition at the back faces the reconstructed coach house across a stone-paved garden. The coach house's exterior fireplace gives this space the feeling of an outdoor room. The jury particularly admired the project's exuberance and the clever relationships established between interior and exterior.
