This project consists of two outpatient clinics, an obstetrics clinic and a women's health clinic, which share one floor of a major health care facility. The design concept for the project was for each of the two clinics to have a unique identity yet (in order to save space) share certain common facilities needed by both organizations. Each clinic was planned with its own reception/waiting room plus a shared waiting room contains additional seating for both organizations. The clinics also share treatment rooms, examination rooms, counseling rooms, a staff lounge and toilet rooms.
Each of the clinics is composed of four clusters of examination rooms and physician's offices. To simplify wayfinding within each suite, each cluster is marked with uniquely colored architectural features and graphic elements. These wayfinding devices, the oak millwork and the distinctive artwork were used with the goal of creating a helpful, friendly, and non-threatening environment.

"It is difficult to design for hospitals because of the many regulations that must be followed. This facility is a real achievement in spite of the imposed limitations." -Jury Comment |
