Description General: Editor of Texas Architect, the flagship print publication of the Texas Society of Architects (6 issues per year); reports to the Executive Vice-President (EVP) of the Society and the Communications Chief. Qualifications: College degree with major related to journalism and architecture plus a minimum of three years experience as a magazine editor, preferably related to architecture, construction, and/or design. Show proven ability to write and communicate about architecture/design, and its value/impact on society. Ability to compose quality written materials, work on several projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and organize work flow of external contributors. Ability to identify and articulate issues, topics, and projects that engage and inspire members and the public about architecture and the profession. Personal attributes should include an ability to work collaboratively with a 13-person staff and outside contractors, as well as interact with an engaged committee of members. Excellent software skills with the ability to learn new software as needed. Organizational skills that include maintaining and updating scheduling documentation on an ongoing basis. Job duties: Work with the EVP to articulate the mission of the Society for Texas Architect within the guidelines established by the Board and committees. Create and/or assign articles to be written; set related deadlines and negotiate related fees with contracted writers; edit articles as part of production workflow. Confirm projects with architect(s) and/or firm. Request materials (project resources, plans/images, project description, and release forms), and facilitate transmission of project list, description, and resource form to Advertising Sales Representative. Collect, check, and file publication information from firms. Work with Art Director to collect and troubleshoot photography and image files. Edit/proof final content. Serve as staff liaison to Publications and Design committees. Oversee annual Design and Studio Awards programs. o Select jury date to work with magazine schedule o Oversee the production of Call for Entries o Schedule Call for Entries ad with magazine o Notify award winners and provide publication information o Other Interface with other architecture publications integrating best practices, trends, and leading-edge concepts as appropriate within the Texas Society of Architects framework. Contribute content for other communications (website, marketing and convention pieces, newsletter, etc.) as appropriate. Salary is commensurate with experience ($55 80,000) and includes benefits.
