Siting of the Memorial
The site at the southern end of Grant Park within the Museum Campus area is the site for the memorial. When complete, the memorial shall bring the following attributes to the site:
- 1. Provide a public educational experience explaining Burnham's contributions and the importance of urban planning and architecture.
- Provide a gateway into Burnham Park named for him at the south end of Grant Park in front of the Field Museum, both of which were designed by Burnham.
- Enhance the Museum Campus program area.
- Significantly enhance an underutilized part of south Grant Park and bring a focus to an area of uninspired landscape.
- Eliminate the pedestrian desire paths which are ruining the turf and deteriorating the overall aesthetic view of the Museum.
- Provide an amenity with architectural features and lighting that will be visible and enjoyed by the public both during the day and at night.
- Provide a public experience combination architecture, sculpture, landscape and graphics.
- Provide a permanent identity for the donors funding the memorial and the Centennial events.
